Weekly update

Phew the end of another busy week at The Dante Yard and it really is all systems go for the following couple of weeks ! Peterhouse runs at Beverley on Thursday for connections on what will be quite a poignant day for family and close friends of the late Jilly Willows . Sadly missed by us all I am quite certain she will be there in spirit . " Pete" has won won twice before on the east coast and was narrowly denied last season failing by a hair on the line ! He is in great shape and looks a picture .. A little more sunshine needed perhaps as he has not quite dropped the furry winter coat ..! Clifford Lee rode him work this morning and was happy enough as " Pete " only just does enough at home . Clifford and Danielle Mooney joined us at 5.45 am so we could beat the traffic and Middleham heat !! Heavenly Gait looks amazing in her skin and she is to be popped over schooling fences either tomorrow or early I the week . I watched her this morning in the lunge pit trotting over several poles and with head down and concentrating intently she hardly put a foot wrong .. Onto slightly larger obstacles and with the assistance of a jump jockey I am sure she will take to her new vocation . I stand by my comments that she is far too good looking an animal and works too well for all not to show a little patience more .. Our Power filly is enormous and I think ( hope) she has finally come to the end of yet another growth spurt and we are kicking on with her training regime . A flashy chestnut filly with attitude to spare !! Gloria ( Showcasing ) filly has also grown and is beginning to look all polished and refined . She has some rear end and is taking it all in her stride and pleasing all . She is such a big softy in her stable loves her feed loves her hay and will eat anything that is put in front of her . She livens up somewhat once on exercise as I am sure Damon will confirm ..!!.. Just how I like them to be ! She is most certainly one in my diary and a complete treasure to be around . One of the new girls Bay Station has settled in nicely and goes about her daily duties without fuss and should not be too long before she tells us that " it s time". !! None of our animals are pushed or rushed into action which I am sure at times can be frustrating for connections ( as it can be for us in the yard too ) but most horses will tell you when ready . We get the best out of them without pushing , it s a long season and our favourite motto is .. Kill them with kindness . Pastoral Dreams has had a couple of quiet weeks as he too has grown and we came off him slightly as bones grow and muscles mature . Entered for some valuable sales races fingers crossed Pasty . He is a lovely looking colt and loves his work too . Embers Glow is also doing all that we ask of him though I may have to stick the heat lamps on as he just won t shake the winter coat ! Another lovely looking chestnut colt you can tell he has spent time in Dubai as he holds on to his coat for dear life ! A Sepoy colt so beautifully bred that he demands and gets the time needed . Our old friend Rory and flag bearer has a date with Goodwood looming and I personally think the track will suit and he will show us once again what he is capable of . I have only been there once and took a winner who was very much in the same stamp,as " our Rory "!! Nelly I am glad to report also runs in the next couple of weeks and she worked up the seven this morning like a freight train .. Albeit a small one . She may not be very big in stature but makes up for it in heart and pulls the lads arms out most days !! She too needs some warm weather for her coat . Stretewise on the other hand has a coat that you can see your face in and is thriving , I am eagerly awaiting her next outing as she is " bouncing" . Taggy to her friends is a sweetheart at home although with ears back she merely pretends that she is not !! Her work is foot perfect and always pleases on the gallop, my old pal stu ( Ypres) still looks like a wooly mammoth though do not be put off by that fact , his work is foot perfect and yet again I relish the season ahead . P J McDonald asked about him this morning and has promised to have a sit on " the beast " and I know already that he will win on him again .. Though just not when !!! Seriously folks Stu is on fire and I think my brother may just have weaved some magic with the fitting of a pacifier . A hood with mesh over the eyes .. Watch this space ... Lamont racing s newest acquisition is on antibiotics for now as she came with a slight snuffle .. She is in quarantine on her own poor love but hopefully not for too long . I attend her every need personally and she has had the missing shoe replaced ( she arrived minus her near hind shoe )- and goes on the walker twice a day . I believe that she may be ridden on Monday so watch this space . A very pretty filly kind in her stable though does have a two year old temper !! She s a woman ..!!.. I apologise ladies only jesting and teasing !! Mother and foal go in the paddock every day and baby now stands with her head over the stable door and I shall add pictures to the gallery for you to view .. Attitude and arrogance like her mother and boy can she gallop ! In the adjoining paddock we have minder and baby sitter Faz . He is 25 years young looks amazing rolls then gallops like a yearling and generally looks after our younger stock ! On the other side of Faz is ( Bushy) Monte Cinq who absolutely loves the field and eats bounces around and enjoys all day hours turned out . He has put weight on still looks amazing in his skin and loves his life I am certain .. Looking forward to his return when vacation ends as there is more to come from my friend with the extremely long tongue... My beloved Leeds United yet again put me through the mill as they blow our play off chances out of the water . We don't do boring or mid table .. Up or down is how it goes !!
