News from R Jay Ward Racing Ltd

It s a funny old game .. Someone once said .. Football horse racing life ..??.. Never Say ran at Catterick today in the claiming race .. Time at the off ..2.50 . Only four runners and a new trip we thought she would get ok . She ran a blinder to finish second to a comfortable winner and connections left pleased at her performance and some well deserved prize money . Only downside being .. She was claimed out of the race and an empty horse box returned home ! Good luck to "Nelly" and her new connections . Ypres heads to Hamilton on Wednesday and is in splendid form , he spends a lot of the time in his paddock with the old boy Faz who I saw put Stu firmly in his place yesterday ! Stu bit Faz on the ass and the old boy went crackers much to my amusement as Stu cowered ! Monte Cinq still only a few weeks back into training looks amazing and has lost no condition whatsoever after his loss !! Kate showed two ladies around the yard last evening and they were smitten with "Bushy" and his gleaming black coat . The Kylachy filly is at present going through a growth spurt and if she ever grows into her back end will one day be a very big girl .. She has a couple of issues that require a few quiet weeks but I know how much she is liked by all that sit on her . HeavenlyGait s jockey from last weekend was heard to say .. And I quote .." This mare will definitely win before the summer is out and if she does not I shall forsake my riding fees ! ". We keep the faith and I know she will repay that faith . I fully understand that time is money and this is an expensive hobby but nobody in the yard believes that she will not win . Stretewise is firmly on the comeback trail and is pleasing all on the gallops and eats all that I put in front of her .. You all know that I have a soft spot for her and the best is yet to come . Gloria has been asked to up the ante these past few weeks and has taken to faster more serious work like a true pro . Time is on our side with her and for now all signs are positive . She still holds some fancy entries and that will not alter . Bay Station is a little pro she loves her work and hardly bats an eyelid as she goes through her paces . She has come on so much for her first outing and listening to our apprentice Adam this morning ... He is swinging out of her most mornings ..!!!... More porridge needed for that lad I feel ! Pasty too holds some fancy sales race entries and whilst gleaming in his coat is rather immature and unfurnished as he goes through yet another growth spurt , we like him a lot has quite a chilled out attitude though never lets us forget that he is a two year old colt . Embers Glow we hope is a fortnight away from a run and pleases us more and more each week . He has almost shed his winter wool and is fast becoming a flashy chestnut animal . Peterhouse heads to York on Friday for the apprentice race and he too has been enjoying long spells in the paddock . Rory will join him at York on Friday and we have fingers crossed for not too much more rain next week . Both are in great shape look fantastic and I have had words with both of them this week !! Our Power filly too has been in faster work and wow does she have a stride on her . She worked up the grass this morning doing one stride to,her work partners two !! Just a word on loosing Never Say today ...Jason had planned all week to run her at Carlise , leave her in the claimer and pick up prize money along the way . Franny Norton held his hands upyesterday and said .. Sorry Jason I should have been second .. Jay knew that with the rain there would be non runners as was the case . Had she won today it would have been hailed as a master stroke etc etc .. As his right hand man I think it was an excellent piece of training. Well done bro ! .... Text from my fifteen year old son today (Harry) ... " when you feel like a chat dad give me a call as I have a business proposition for you "!!!!! ..... I love my children dearly but dear lord how much is this going to cost me !
